Biography

Born in Houston, Genny grew up sailing one and two-person dinghies, competing at the highest level nationally and internationally, first representing the US as the top girl on the Opti European Team, traveling to compete in Croatia when she was thirteen. She went on to win the US Youth World Championship spot in both the one-person and two-person female classes, narrowly missed the skiff Youth World spot due to a broken mast, and was a member of the US Sailing Team in the 470 Olympic Class. As a freshman at Harvard University, Genny was named the runner-up for the Female Collegiate Sailor of the Year, a title she then earned her sophomore year, before graduating as a junior. She was named a 3-time All–American female skipper, leading her team to multiple regional and national championships, and helping it to win the Fowle Trophy-designating it as the top sailing team in the country-each year she was there. After growing up sailing small boats and graduating from college, Genny spent the last couple of years expanding her sailing repertoire into the big-boat and offshore arena. Picked in 2007 as a member of Morning Light, the basis for the Disney documentary feature film, Genny was one of only two females in the country to qualify for the team and ultimately the only female to make the 11-person race team and compete in the legendary Transpac Race from Long Beach to Hawaii. She learned invaluable lessons as she transformed from an inshore small boat sailor to an all-around sailor, and has spent a lot of time since competing on larger boats and teams, racing on everything from Melges 24s and 32s, to Mumm 30s, Farr 40s and TP52s. Highlights include winning Key West Race Week as a crew on the Melges 32 Star, and leading Ragtime as a watch-captain and helmsman to win overall in the Tahiti Race last summer, and then again to win their division in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Race over the New Year. Genny’s energies are currently focused on a campaign for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and she’s currently ranked as the top women’s match racing skipper on the US Sailing Team Alphagraphics! Genny Tulloch is dedicated to further pursuing her sailing career: representing sailing in the community, racing with top national and international teams, and continuing her own Olympic dreams. Genny also plays in many other fields: from snowboarding, mountain biking, scuba diving and kiteboarding, to running, traveling, and painting.
